Today I had an interesting first experience with my submissions to Ship It II.
I went to the Seattle postal hub during my lunch hour and tried to mail 2 items. The postal employee stated that I would need to put them in a box. I stated that I could not put them in a box, that I wanted them to be mailed as is- I explained that the items were going to a mail art show and that they would not open the box. The individual went to ask a supervisor/manager and I was left waiting for 8 minutes! When the individual returned they stated that the items needed to be in a box- their reasoning? The keyboard could break in half and the postage sticker could slide off the bike seat! Denied.
I went to another Post Office after work and had a much different experience:
I stated right off the bat to this postal employee that I was submitting to a mail art show and that I wanted to mail these items. She said, “just like that” and I said, “yes!” She took the keyboard, looked at both sides and said, “I’m holding art.” Sucess!
